A non-profit has neither an IT department nor a renewal budget. It has a treasurer who must justify every euro to the members, and one volunteer who keeps the website alive because nobody else will. This page is written for those two people.

By-Hoster web hosting starts at €1/month incl. VAT, that is €10.80 for the year. The price you sign up at is the price you renew at: there is no cut-price first year followed by a tripled invoice the treasurer discovers twelve months later.

By-Hoster is a French association loi 1901, registered under RNA number W162005815. We have no shareholders to pay, and we run our own datacentre in Nouvelle-Aquitaine — a single site, operated directly, described in full on our infrastructure page.

What the hosting includes

Automatic SSL certificate

Let's Encrypt installed and renewed with no intervention. The padlock in the browser does not depend on a volunteer remembering to redo it every three months.

Plesk control panel

A graphical interface: files, databases, email addresses, one-click WordPress installer. No command line anywhere.

Migration handled for you

If the site already lives elsewhere, we move it for you, free of charge. That is usually the one thing that keeps an organisation on an unsuitable host for years.

Hosted in France

Datacentre DC-FR_NA(01), in Nouvelle-Aquitaine, operated by the association itself. Your members, minutes and files stay under French jurisdiction.

Why the host's legal status actually matters

A hosting company has to pay its shareholders. The simplest way to do that across a fleet of small accounts is well known: a cheap first year, then renewal at the real price. The mechanism is not illegal, it is simply incompatible with a budget voted a year in advance.

By-Hoster has no shareholders. The price shown at sign-up is the price on the next invoice, and on the one after that. It is less a marketing promise than a consequence of the structure: there is nobody to hand the difference to.

The same applies to support. Questions reach the technical team directly, with no call centre and no filtering tier. For a volunteer meeting an error message on a Sunday evening, the difference is tangible.

What a non-profit website really costs

Hosting is rarely the heaviest line. Reckon on:

  • Hosting: €10.80 a year for Web Débutant, €32.40 for Web Classique.
  • Domain name: depending on the extension, from a few euros to around fifteen euros a year. .org and .fr are the usual choices.
  • SSL certificate: €0, Let's Encrypt is included and renewed automatically.
  • Migration from your current host: €0, handled by the team.
  • Management applications: optional, from €2.99/month if you would rather run a managed Nextcloud or Dolibarr than a free American service.

A WordPress with the bylaws, the calendar, the minutes and the membership form. The Web Débutant plan at €1/month is enough for a site of a few pages.

Email addresses in the organisation name

contact@, chair@, treasurer@ — addresses that outlive a change of committee, unlike the outgoing secretary's personal mailbox.

An events gallery

Photos from outings, meetings, tournaments. From the Web Classique plan onwards (50 GB of SSD), space stops being a topic.

Member management

Dolibarr or EspoCRM as a <a href="/applications-managees">managed application</a> keep the member list, the subscriptions and the reminders, without a shared spreadsheet that goes missing.

The committee passwords

Vaultwarden as a managed application replaces the sticky note and the "codes.docx" file passed from one term to the next. Every committee member gets their own access.

No. The prices shown are the public prices, the same for everyone. There is no application to file and no committee to wait for: the order goes through immediately.

No. The price you subscribe at is the renewal price. That is the point that matters most for a budget voted at a general meeting, which is why it appears at the top of this page.

Yes. Billing is monthly, quarterly or annual, as you prefer. Annual billing avoids twelve accounting entries for a single service.

The account belongs to the organisation, not to the person who placed the order. The holder and the billing address can be changed from the client area, and we help with the handover if needed.
