The Linux KVM VPS, explained simply
What you get, and why it is not shared hosting.
A KVM VPS is a virtual machine created by the KVM/QEMU hypervisor, the very one that powers Proxmox. Unlike shared containers, you get your own kernel, your reserved memory and your own disk: what a neighbour does on the same physical machine does not eat into your resources.
Our plans range from 2 to 24 Xeon E5 vCPUs, 4 to 64 GB of DDR4 RAM and 40 to 500 GB of SSD. You choose your distribution — Debian, Ubuntu LTS, Rocky Linux, AlmaLinux — and reinstall it as often as needed from the client area, without changing IP address.
What root access changes
With full root SSH access you install whatever you want: Nginx or Apache, Docker, a PostgreSQL database, a game server, a CI runner, a VPN. You host as many sites and APIs as the resources allow, and you decide the versions. That is the fundamental difference with shared hosting, where the environment is fixed and shared.
What to know before starting
A VPS is unmanaged: security updates, the firewall and backups are your responsibility. Plans include from zero to several automatic backups depending on the tier — check the “backup” line of the plan you are considering. Anti-DDoS protection, on the other hand, is included everywhere at no extra cost.
If you want your own virtual machines
A VPS gives you one machine. If you want to create several inside it, manage your own IPs and run your own hypervisor, look at the Proxmox VDS: Proxmox VE comes preinstalled and nested virtualisation is enabled. For a whole machine with no sharing at all, see our dedicated servers.

Frequently asked questions
A KVM VPS is a virtual server created by the KVM hypervisor (the same one Proxmox uses): unlike shared containers (OpenVZ/LXC), you get a true isolated virtual machine with its own kernel, reserved RAM and dedicated disk. You can install anything, just like on a physical server. For the full picture, read our guide What is a VPS?
Debian or Ubuntu LTS if you are starting out or following tutorials (most use them). Rocky Linux or AlmaLinux if you come from the CentOS/RHEL world or run a panel like Plesk or cPanel. All images deploy in 60 seconds and you can reinstall at will from the client area. See also our Rocky Linux 9 guide.
Yes. With full root SSH access you can run as many sites, APIs, databases or services as the resources allow — through Nginx/Apache virtual hosts or Docker — you can even install Pelican Panel in 1 click to manage several containerised servers. That is the main advantage of a VPS over shared hosting: you decide everything.
Automatically, within 60 seconds of payment: you receive a dedicated IPv4 address, root SSH credentials and access to the management panel (reboot, reinstall, snapshots, console). No manual step, even at night.
Yes, vertical scaling is done from the client area: move to a bigger plan (more vCPU, RAM or NVMe) without reinstalling or changing IP. The price difference is prorated.
Yes, every VPS includes Anti-DDoS protection (L3/L4 and application layer) at no extra cost, including game-server filtering (GAME Anti-DDoS). See our guide Understanding Anti-DDoS.
