Frequently asked questions
Choose Windows Server 2019 only if you have legacy applications that require this exact version (.NET Framework 4.x, specific IIS modules). Otherwise Windows Server 2022 is recommended.
Microsoft keeps extended support until 9 January 2029: security updates included. Mainstream support ended in January 2024. For new long-lived installs we rather recommend Windows Server 2022 (supported until 2031).
Yes. Microsoft supports an in-place upgrade from Windows Server 2019 to 2022: mount the 2022 ISO, run setup, choose "Keep apps and files". Our support can run the upgrade or advise on migrating to a fresh Windows Server 2022 VPS.
Typical cases: applications using .NET Framework 4.5/4.6 with no path to 4.8, Active Directory integrations tied to the 2019 schema, legacy IIS modules (URL Rewrite v1, old ARR), SQL Server 2014/2016 connectors that were never recompiled. Confirm with your software vendor before migrating.
Microsoft minimum: 2 GB RAM (4 GB with Desktop Experience). Realistic production: 4 GB for a light server, 8 GB for IIS + .NET Framework apps, 16 GB for full application environments. Windows 2019 uses slightly less RAM than Server 2022 at equivalent function.
Yes. Anti-DDoS L3/L4 protection is live 24/7 on every VPS, regardless of the OS you pick. Filtering happens upstream in the DC-FR_NA(01) datacenter, your Windows VPS only ever sees legitimate traffic.
