The scope, unambiguously: Nextcloud installs on our VPS, but the installation is not automatic. No managed Nextcloud, no magic button: you deploy it yourself (Docker AIO or the classic PHP archive — 30 to 45 minutes following the official documentation) and keep full ownership of the instance, updates and apps. No — and we own it clearly: Nextcloud installs on our VPS, but the installation is not automatic. You deploy your instance yourself (Docker AIO is the simplest path today), which guarantees a clean install fully under your control. Our support guides you on the server side if you get stuck.
The recommended path: 1) order a Debian or Ubuntu VPS with enough storage; 2) install Docker; 3) deploy Nextcloud All-in-One (AIO), which bundles database, cache and HTTPS; 4) point your domain and run the wizard. The official documentation also covers the classic PHP install; allow 30-45 minutes.
For 1-5 users: 2 vCPU, 4 GB RAM and NVMe storage sized for your files (40 GB and up). A well-tuned Redis cache and PHP-FPM matter more than raw CPU. For a larger team or heavy Talk video use, aim for 4 vCPU / 8 GB — and upgrade the plan without reinstalling when the day comes.
The hosting is by construction: your data lives in our French datacenter DC-FR_NA(01), with no transfer outside the EU and no foreign subcontractor. As the controller of your instance, the application layer remains yours (accounts, retention, external shares) — Nextcloud provides the tools to manage it properly.
Two levels: VPS snapshots before every major update, and an application backup (database dump + data folder) stored off-server — Nextcloud AIO even ships BorgBackup integration. The self-hosting golden rule: always one copy off the server.
