Connect an AI to your By-Hoster account
Claude, ChatGPT and most AI assistants can connect to your By-Hoster account through the MCP protocol (Model Context Protocol). You can then ask them in plain language: "Order me a Debian VPS for my project", "Why is my website slow?", "Point www.my-domain.com to my VPS"… The AI acts within the limits you set, and you stay in control of anything that costs money or erases data.
The easiest way: under My profile → AI agents, click Add to Claude, Add to VS Code or Add to Cursor: the application opens with By-Hoster already filled in.
The connector is included in your account at no extra cost.
What the AI can do
- view your services, invoices, tickets and the catalogue;
- prepare an exact quote, place an order and pay it (balance or saved card);
- start, stop or restart a VPS or an application; take a snapshot; reinstall a system;
- manage the DNS records of your domains;
- open a support ticket, reply to it and close it;
- look for an answer in this help center.
Connect Claude
- In Claude, open Settings → Connectors, then Add custom connector.
- Name it "By-Hoster" and paste the address https://by-hoster.net/mcp.
- Click Connect: you land on By-Hoster. Sign in, choose a security profile, then authorise.
- In a conversation, enable the connector and ask your question.
Connect ChatGPT
- In ChatGPT, open Plugins (depending on your plan, first turn on developer mode in the settings).
- Click + then Add custom MCP server: name "By-Hoster", address https://by-hoster.net/mcp, OAuth authentication.
- Create it, sign in to By-Hoster, choose a profile and authorise.
ChatGPT has no direct install link, and exact labels may vary with your plan.
Claude Code, Cursor, VS Code and other tools
With Claude Code:
claude mcp add --transport http byhoster https://by-hoster.net/mcp
A window opens to authorise access. For a tool that does not support this authorisation, create a personal token under My profile → AI agents and add the header Authorization: Bearer <your token>.
Choose what the AI does on its own
When you authorise an AI, you choose a security profile, which you can change later under My profile → AI agents:
| Profile | What the AI does on its own | What waits for your approval |
|---|---|---|
| Read only | View | Nothing: it cannot change anything |
| Assistant (recommended) | View, open tickets, start or stop a service, prepare orders | Pay, reinstall, restore, cancel, edit DNS |
| Autonomous | Almost everything, payments included within a monthly budget | Reinstall, restore, cancel, transfer a domain |
| Custom | You set each action: automatic, approval or blocked |
For payments, you also set a monthly budget, a maximum amount per payment and the allowed methods (balance, saved card). Above them, the payment is not refused: it waits for your approval. You can also limit an AI to some services, some IP addresses or a duration.
Approvals
When an action needs your approval, the AI gives you a link and you receive an e-mail. Open the request under My profile → AI agents → Approvals, read what will be done, then approve or refuse. For an irreversible action (reinstall, cancellation, transfer code), you are asked for your password or two-factor code.
Approval always happens in your client area, never in the conversation: an AI misled by a web page cannot approve on your behalf.
What no AI can do
Change your password, e-mail or two-factor authentication, add or remove a payment method, transfer funds, manage your sub-users, export your data or delete your account. These actions remain yours, in the client area.
Follow and cut access
Every action is recorded in the log (My profile → AI agents), exportable as CSV, and you can ask for an e-mail on each action. You can pause an AI, revoke it, or cut off every AI in one click.
Your data
By-Hoster only sends the AI what its tools return at your request (for example the list of your services). This information is then processed by the provider of the AI you use (Anthropic, OpenAI…), under its own terms. No account password or card number is ever sent.
